Discussing the issues of our day
The United state is working towards for more unity among the countries and nations of our world. In some areas I believe it is warranted while in other it is more sensationalism sake and less for a necessary cause.
ReplyDeleteThe United States should push for Free trade among the nations. It promotes trade among the countries and useful competition that can give a better price to everyone. Along with that it allows third world countries a chance to get involved in the world’s economy and have less of a seat on the sidelines looking in. Now the people in Africa can be just as able to sell their wares as the mega markets in other countries.
While Free Trade is good the free flow of capital movement is taken the theory to far. For instance the WTO can take their regulations of the economy too far and instead of aiding the economy end up hindering trade.
Global climate change is a thorny subject, because no one can seem to agree on what is actually going on. I lie on the side that sees it as simple sensationalism trying to drive people into frenzy over nothing but the natural cycle of the world. It goes in waves and humanity can hardly do anything to the process. A volcano eruption does more damage to the earth’s atmosphere then humanity can do in years.
Cheap labor markets are one of the things that I think the U.S. is handling correctly. Outsourcing is something that must stop, it gives mega corporations way to cut costs even more by building plants out of the states and hiring the cheaper labor there. The problem comes that while it helps the corporations it hurts local economies inside the states. For some reason the people who give less job opportunities in the states get tax breaks. The U.S. is looking to stop this practice and I believe they are handling the situation well.
The United States should encourage globalization as a way to increase trade between nations, help the economy, and possibly reduce emissions caused by this country.
ReplyDeleteAmerica should encourage the way that free trade opens trade to the whole world. In order to improve the economy, America needs to be able to bring in profit from other nations. Eliminating barriers such as tariffs encourages trading with other countries. The downside of free trade is that the competition could drive the prices down. A good example is the coffee business in Guatemala. Because of free trade, the price of coffee has drastically decreased. Farmers are suffering because they cannot make a profit. The U.S. should also encourage fair trade. Fair trade cuts out middle men and gives a better, standard price to the growers.
Free flow of capital should be encouraged by the U.S. Trading with other countries is a good thing. However, the WTO should not have so much power over trade. When two countries are making a trade agreement, they should be in control of the details. The WTO should not try to put regulations on trade. They have too much control.
Cheaper foreign labor should not be supported by America. In order to improve the economy in the U.S., citizens need to be able to get jobs. Right now the unemployment rate is very high. America should attempt to give more jobs to the U.S. citizens as opposed to giving jobs to foreign people.
The United States should notice global climate change. It would be a good idea to attempt to make some small changes to reduce the amount of emissions this country puts out annually. However, America does not need to drastically change our lifestyle. That would be impractical and possibly more expensive. Some emissions are completely out of our control. Joseph said that volcanoes can do more damage to the atmosphere than people can do in years. It is not worth changing so drastically when natural occurrences pollute more than we possibly could. I would still encourage the United States to search for more clean, inexpensive, and convenient ways to reduce emissions.
The world is going towards a more integrated global economy by such things as free trade, free flow of capital, cheaper foreign labor markets, and the global climate change. The U.S should act in the areas of free trade and cheap labor and not get into the areas of the free flow of Capital with WTO and the climate change.
ReplyDeleteAlthough some bad things may come out of free trade, the good outweighs the bad. The U.S. should definitely be involved with free trade because it increases imports, gives better working conditions for people, and gives more money to exports. Another good thing is that everyone has more of a fair chance for their business that way. It eliminates the “middle man.”
The U.S. should also act in the area of cheap labor markets. The U. S. should act to shy away from those cheap labor markets and make it a good and beneficial thing to hire within the U.S. There needs to be as many jobs for Americans as possible. That being said, the cost for doing this cannot be too expensive. Things need to be kept in such a way so it doesn’t hurt the American companies that are currently in “the cheap labor market.”
The U.S. should not get too involved with the free flow of capital or in other words the WTO. I completely agree with Danika in the fact that trading with other countries is good and that the parties involved should have the right to make their own agreement. The WTO just puts too much regulation on it which is why the U.S. shouldn’t get too involved with the WTO.
Global climate change is something which the U.S. should not to anything drastic to improve. The U.S. already is making hybrid cars and recycling etc.; there is no need to go to the extreme. Just as Joseph said, I think the world is in too much of a frenzy over the natural cycle of the world. We should not to anything more drastic to harm or to improve. It could be terriblely expensive which is not what our economy needs right now.
The United States should use some aspects of globalization. People worry too much about the environment. It is a good thing to be as efficient as possible, but we should not have to change our lives drastically because of emissions. I agree with Joseph when he says that some natural disasters have as much effect on the environment as years of human’s emissions. The US should allow fair trade because it helps the farmers get better prices for their product. It cuts out the “coyotes” who make money by being the middle man. Free flow of capital is always good. When there is money switching hands it stimulates the economy. The United States economy needs to trade with other countries to stimulate our economy. But the US cannot give the WTO so much power. Sometimes you need an official in a trade agreement, but most of the time the two countries who are the ones trading can reach an agreement by themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe United States should push for globalization because it would allow us to trade with many different countries and allow us to take in more revenue which we clearly need.
ReplyDeleteThe United States should encourage and promote free trade, and more specifically, fair trade. Free trade encourages competition among the various markets of the world. Thiss benefits the consumer because the competition will lead to lower and more fair prices. The problem with free trade is that in agriculture the grower is hurt because the buyers cannot pay as much for their products since they lower their prices that the consumers pay. This is where the U.S. should push fair trade because that would allow the grower to sell directly to the buyer without using middlemen and thereby allow the grower to take in more money.
The U.S. should also push for free flow of capitol since this would allow us to trade with other nations freely. As Danika said, the WTO has too much say over trade agreements and details that should really just be between the countries involved in the trading. They have put too many regulations on trade that sometimes discourages countries from trading.
Outsourcing is a bad idea for Americans, but a good thing for the countries that are providing the outsourcing. Outsourcing takes away jobs from american people and sends them overseas to countries such as China and Taiwan. The american people then cannot find jobs as easily, and the unemployment rate goes up. This also means that more people become supported by the welfare system, so taxes increase. Meanwhile, the people in foreign countries are getting jobs that Americans are capable of doing. This needs to stop and i agree with president O'bama in his attempts to stop the tax breaks for companies going overseas and giving the tax breaks to corporations keeping their labor forces in America.
Global Climate Change, to me, seems to be one of the lesser important issues that the media has propogated among the world. The earth goes through natural cycles of heating and cooling, as El Atun said, and we just seems to be in an up swing. I believe that as christians we are called to be good stewards of the earth, so we should look for more efficient energy sources that are also practical, but i do not think that the Climate Change is as much of a crisis as everyone believes.
Globalization in the United States should be encouraged. It will help the economy in the ways of free trade, the free flow of the capital, cheap labor markets, and the current global climate change.
ReplyDeleteFree trade is a good thing between the world’s nations. It creates profit for both the buyer and the seller and links the nations together. But it can also cause problems for some countries that don’t have much and the competition is too great. Coffee growers in Guatemala are not making much of a profit because other places have much better resources.
The free flow of capital is a very good thing between countries and there SHOULD be some regulations, but the WTO has taken it too far. Danika wrote that the WTO should not have so much power over trade and I believe this to be true because they have put so many regulations on trade that the two countries trading soon do not have very much say in their trading.
While outsourcing is a good thing and provides jobs for citizens of other nations, the United States should be providing jobs for Americans instead. The United States’ unemployment rate is growing but that could be helped if we provided jobs for our own citizens.
Global climate change is an important matter that can be helped by making changes to little things that we may do during the day. If everyone does a little to help, there can be a big result. Although this is true, I believe that people are making a much bigger deal about global climate change than there needs to be.
Globalization consists of four main areas, free trade, cheaper labor markets, free flow of capital, and global climate change. I believe the United States should be encouraging the areas of Globalization that help increase and protect our economy. as well as encourage trade with other countries.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of free trade should be supported by the United States because it will allow trade to happen without the government getting involved, better prices, and allow all countries to be a part of trade. The government, without free trade, would apply tariffs and/or subsidies which would discourage the trade between countries. Trade between countries should be greatly encouraged, because it allows the smaller countries to partake in trade and the consumers get better prices because there are more suppliers which cause the prices to have to be competitive.
Free flow of capital should be supervised by the WTO, World Trade Organization, but the United States should make sure that the WTO doesn't get to much power in trade. Trade needs to be supervised and regulated by the WTO because it is necessary to have standards for negotiating and standards for creating a trade agreement. These standards are necessary so that all countries have an even playing field when it comes to trade. The WTO is also helpful when it comes to settling trade arguments, because they are able to fairly settle disagreements. The WTO has the possibility of getting to much power. The WTO could set to many trade barriers and only care about making the most money not the people. If the WTO did either of these things it would cause the countries and businesses to try and overthrow the WTO; therefore, I believe the United States should make sure that the WTO is encouraging fair trade.
Outsourcing, businesses tapping into cheaper labor markets, should be discouraged by the government because it takes jobs away from people in the United Sates, which does not help our economy at all. Businesses in the United States have started sending their businesses overseas so that they can take advantage of the cheaper labor markets. The problem with this is that the more jobs that our businesses give to people in other countries the less jobs we have in the United States. I believe that the United States should encourage people to keep their businesses in the United States by offering tax breaks and other benefits to companies who keep their businesses in the United States.
I believe that the global climate change is just a natural process that the earth is going through, but I also believe that our government should encourage people to become "greener" because God commanded us to take care of the earth. A lot of people believe that humans are causing the global climate change by people driving cars, using hairspray, and by factories emitting to much harmful matter into the air. As Joseph mentioned, when volcanoes explode, they put more harmful matter into the air than anything else ever does. This fact is proof that the global climate change is just a natural process that the earth is going through, but it is a good thing to try and go "greener." God commanded us to take care of the earth and some good ways to do this are by conserving energy, researching more ways to emit less harmful matter into the air, and by researching new ways to run cars other than fossil fuels.
Globalization is the development of a global economy. Globalization is marked by free trade, free flow of capital, cheap foreign labor markets, and global climate change. Because of the United State’s large role in the global economy, I believe the U.S. has and can have a large effect on the four characteristics of globalization. I believe the U.S. should encourage free trade and the free flow of capital by limiting tariffs, discourage cheap foreign labor markets by giving businesses who keep their factories in America tax breaks, and do only what is reasonable to help stop global climate change.
ReplyDeleteThe United States should encourage free trade and the free flow capital by limiting tariffs and subsidizing companies who export goods. I agree with Joseph el Atun when he says, “[free trade] allows third world countries a chance to get involved in the world’s economy.” By removing or limiting trading tariffs and restrictions anyone who produces a product can have a fair chance. Also, because of competition between producers and the laws of supply and demand, prices will go down for the consumer.
The United States should discourage cheap foreign labor markets by giving tax breaks to companies which keep their factories in America and by enforcing quality standards on imported goods. Companies who qualify for these tax breaks will have added incentive to keep their factories in the U.S. This will lead to more American jobs. Also, by enforcing quality standards on imported good the U.S. can take away one benefit of cheap for labor markets. Foreign factories will need to produce quality products.
The United States should act reasonably in reaction to global climate change. Although this entails doing what can be done to limit our use of fossil fuel consumption, I also think global climate change has been blown way out of proportion. I believe global climate change is largely a politically and economically driven movement. Many of the political frontrunners and supporters of the movement are making millions of dollars off the idea. For example, Al Gore, the main instigator of global climate change, has seen his income skyrocket from somewhere around $1 million to $2 million in 2000 to near $100 million in 2008 (Representative Marsha Blackburn). By creating a catastrophe, then telling people the ways in which to counter act it, Al Gore and others like him have become rich.
I think U.S could use more globalization. Globallization to expand the four main areas free trade, cheaper labor markets, free flow of capital, and global climate change.since the U.S has a huge play in the world i think it could have a big affect for globalization.
ReplyDeletelike the U.S should encourage free trade because that allows to trade with other countries with out having to pay and without having the government involved.
And also in free flow i think is good also because it too lets us trade with other nations but like rita said "The free flow of capital is a very good thing between countries and there SHOULD be some regulations, but the WTO has taken it too far" i too also think the wto has taken it to the point where they should let it off the leash a little bit.
In cheap labor the U.S should say no because with cheap labor u cant always get a good quality in your products. And also it could create new jobs and more for americans.
As for global climate change it is more of an everyone has to put in a part little by little it can change not just by a couple of people saying yes or no it requires everyone and that can change global climate.
The areas of globalization, those being: global warming, cheap foreign labor, free flow of capitol, and free trade, are topics that should be handled with the entire world in mind.
ReplyDeleteThere is a fact that goes ignored when people say cheap foreign labor does not help the U.S. economy at all, and it’s that cheap foreign labor is what keeps the cost for many products low. I will agree, however, that America needs to encourage more in sourced
jobs for our citizens, but as a country we should not be surprised when the costs our household staples become higher.
Global warming is not as serious a problem as it is presented in the media, but our emissions do cause other problems that are known as fact. Acid rain is formed by the burning of fossil fuels such as oil and coal. When they are burned sulfur dioxide is released into the air and comes into contact with hydrogen peroxide, forming sulfur trioxide. This substance can dissolve in water and form sulfuric acid. The U.S. can handle acid rain the same way it would handle global warming by reducing emissions and offering breaks for companies who do so.
Free Trade is a capitalist form of a global economy and if we choose to follow this route, the world economy will end up like America, struggling to get out of its own debt. Free trade does open the door for any country who wants enter the world trade scene and be successful, but inevitably over time will establish an excessively wealthy upper-class with a gap that the underclass struggles to cross. The U.S. should stand in support of a moderated free trade system for the world economy, imposing tariffs and other sorts of taxes.
The free flow of trade is the unregulated movement of money in the economy. I believe this is something better left untouched. Money belongs the person who owns and the government shouldn’t not be allowed to force people to put money where ever it wants.
I think that we should move towards globalization.
ReplyDeleteGlobal climate is a complex issue because for countries like U.S., we have technology that can help us keep the environment healthy and to us it’s pretty cheap; but to people in Africa that stuff doesn’t really exist and even if it did it would be way too expensive for them to buy. Those countries are more worried about feeding their people and providing jobs than caring for the environment too much. For example, for the people who went to Youth Group the video showed how people would melt metals by burning them in a huge fire and then go from a tent made of clothing to a shack like a hut; so they don’t really care about the environment there but they use it, just trying to survive. It basically tries to show that it is the survival of the fittest so the people there live off of the environment of what they have and try to make the best of it.
As far as fair trade goes, having more choices, from around the world, of products to buy from is a good thing, as that generally brings down prices. However, for the home country, such as the United States, it can hurt local farmers and manufacturers who have to compete against others who do not have to pay as much for their workers.
