In my opinion we should stop the bailouts, let those companies who are going to fail, fail. I think these ideas will hep the situation: reduce spending, repeal Obamacare and give people more tax cuts.
I agree with Ricky that the government should cut back on the bailouts. I think this because giving money to companies who are failing is only making our national deficit worse. I know their reasoning is that by helping the company, they will produce more revenue, which will in turn pay back what the government gave them and then some, but I do not see this happening. This is a very tough question to answer, but in my opinion I lean more towards a government that is less involved with the economy. I think there are natural cycles and laws that govern the economy, because of these naturally occurring things I do not feel that the government needs to be involved so much. The economy will pretty much run itself. Yes, there will be bad times, but following the bad times come good times. That is all just part of the ebb and flow and I do not think it is the government’s job to run it. I think it is the government’s job to pay off their own debts and let the citizens’ economy run itself.
I would say change the welfare, it should be limited to two years, and within that time find a job and if you don’t your benefits will run out. Without a limit right now, we have people who will take advantage of it and live and depend on it getting lazy. This doesn’t solve anything or motivate them for anything. The people who are dependent on welfare benefits can sit at home and not having to work for a living, while its government money and our tax dollars going to them over our hard work.
8ball: The whole stop the bailouts I would say I agree because, right now our country is in so many financial problems and we need to cut back somewhere and bailouts is one of the things we could do without in my opinion.
I think our government should stop spending the money that they do not have. In 2008 when the economy started to fall, it was because mortgages could not be paid off. Prior to this government were granting sublime mortgages to people who could not otherwise get mortgages. When the people were not paying these mortgages back, the bank would bump up the interest rate up. The people could not pay them back and both the people and the bank would acquire more debt. If the banks and government would not have given money they did not have to people who do not have the money to pay it back, we may never have gotten into this problem. So, if the economy and the people only spent the money they had, the government might be able to start paying off some debt. I think 8ball also has a good point in saying we should not have bailouts. If the business is not surviving, then it should die. We should just let the businesses and economies play out.
What I was thinking was that the government shouldn't have much say or be involved in a few of the things in are economy... Agree with some of what 8ball is saying about the bailouts. We just need to give the economy time to balance out. What I mean with balancing out is to have less debts, mortgages, and so on. I think many things should be done but as sale price said, "We should just let the business and economies play out." is the smartest thing I've heard in my opinion.
I agree with saleprice-to keep our economy from getting worse, the gov't needs to cut back or stop all together with spending the money that they dont have. With them spending money that essentially doesnt exist, America is getting farther and farther into debt. This debt is hurting our economy because if we start paying back that debt, then we have less money to work on and improve our own nation. By spending less we can use that money to improve the businesses that are suffering here.
I agree with 8ball that the government should reduce spending. I believe that if the government reduced its spending, it could lower taxes. Reduced taxes provide people and businesses with more money. I believe that this extra money would be spent and would result in the economy being stimulated. I think this is more effective and would help the economy grow. In my opinion, the bailouts are ineffective and should not be continued. The government can reduce our taxes by stopping wasteful spending and by changing what they are spending their money on. The government could also save money by drilling for oil here in the USA instead of importing most of it. I think that the government needs to realize that fluctuations in the economy happen, so they don’t need to overreact when they do occur.
What the government should do is drop the budget 25 percent, which means drop welfare and the expense for school. The government wants everyone’s person and everyone’s business to be equal, which will not be good for our economy. This summer, I had the opportunity to go to a Interrogation Solitary Confinement Cells (KGB Prison). Which is something like a concentration camp but took place in Russia. In 1900’s Russia made everyone equal. This lead to a lot people dead. The Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin had a lot of spies looking for people who would disobey the government. If they were caught not obeying the law they were sent to KGB prison. They were forced to do hard labor and if they had valuable information they were tortured until they talked. Stalin killed more people then Hitler did in World War II. That’s why I don’t think the government is making good decisions in our economy today. If our government continues to control each aspect of our lives and wants us to all be equal; one day we might be like the country of Russia
The government should take responsibility for the deficit and should stop the bailouts. I agree with Maddie that economies have natural cycles and should be left alone. Instead of letting the economy recover naturally, the government tried to bail out the banks and businesses, making them dependent on the government, and driving the government further into debt. The Stimulus Bill was supposed to create jobs and help consumers by way of tax cuts, but the unemployment rate is still high, and the average consumer is still feeling the recession. It is alright for the government to help struggling businesses in hard times, but to make them so dependent on the government is dangerous, because they will want help whenever they get into trouble. The government needs to focus on reducing the deficit instead of just making it bigger, and they should stop spending the money they do not have on projects that are not paying back.
I believe that the government is trying their hardest to do the right thing and get our economy running smoothly again, but I don’t think all of their ideas are very successful. They are spending money on projects that should help the economy, but this is just putting the United States further into debt. I agree with Salprice when he said that the government shouldn’t spend money they don’t have. Because the government took chances with giving sublime mortgages, they suffered when the people couldn’t pay them back. I also agree with Mad Dawg when she said that the government should be less involved. I think then the government could focus more on paying back our debts instead of spending more money on projects or ideas that will supposedly help the economy.
What I think that the government should do is they should put more money on the border control. Also they should put more money on health care and less money on car dealership. I agree with Hawkeye because i think that the government is doing it's best to make sure everyone is surviving in this economy.I do not think that the government should let the people struggle because if the one person struggles then a lot more people are going to struggle because they demand the supplies from other people.
I agree with 8ball, because if our government stops bailouts then they will reduce spending and therefore we could lessen our deficit. I also agree with car_guy that the US does overreact and they shouldn’t because of the natural cycles of our economy. With these natural cycles the economy will bounce back but the government makes it bounce back faster and then we will end up in another depression. Therefore government should, in my opinion, become smaller and less involved because the government is also helping businesses fail by putting huge regulations on them.
Well I think that the Government should spend more money on protecting the border because we need to know that our country is safe of terrorism. also they should spend more money on fixing up the roads.I agree with bejeweled because the government should drop the budget because there is to much spending already. I Do not agree with Ricky because if you let the business' struggle by themselves then they might file for bankruptcy and their workers will get fired which will make the national unemployment rate go up.
I agree with 8ball, let the companies fall and let the economy go through its cycle. The money that is spent is most likely going to be wasted anyway. This will also just put our country into more debt. I think our country should focus on puting its money into paying off its debts instead of trying to jumpstart the economy.
I think this is really cool you guys are discussing this. I do agree with 8ball. He seems to be extremely wise. The sooner we stop bailing out companies the sooner we recover from this depression. Very interesting though.... by the way, whoever revealed the flying dutchman is not very considerate. Stuff like this really should be kept confidential. Cool blog though.
I disagree with flying dutchman and 8ball. i think the government should do the oposite of there idea and try to jump start the economy so the government would be able to get more tax dollars from the buisnesses that are now doind better after they restarted the econonmy. then the government will be able to pay off more debts with the tax dollars the earn.
I agree with big boi and 8ball. The economy is in a state of disarray but it is returning by inertia. The successful businesses will succeed and the failing ones will fail. We should cut needless spending and then wait for the economy to right itself. Also we should restrict welfare and make it more difficult to apply so that only people who really need it can get it.
In my opinion we should stop the bailouts, let those companies who are going to fail, fail. I think these ideas will hep the situation: reduce spending, repeal Obamacare and give people more tax cuts.
