Second Question

How should we view current immigration legislation?

18 comments:

  1. Because of the problems that illegal immigrants cause, we should support immigration legislation to a certain extent. Many immigrants come legally, settle in, and prosper. However, many of these immigrants either come illegally or come legally but overstay their visas making them illegal. A good percent of these illegal immigrants settle in, find a job, and don’t cause problems, but a lot of them do. The U.S. has many ways of immigration control which can be good, but in some cases it can also be bad.
Many illegal immigrants take advantage of welfare programs. They also take a lot of jobs that legal immigrants could very well be doing. Other illegal immigrants, in the example of September 11th, are causing problems in the American society. The government has established border control to help keep the illegal immigrants from crossing the borders by using fencing, technology, and patrol officers. The US-VISIT (United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology) program is used to determine if foreign nationals should be allowed entry and whether exiting aliens overstayed their admission. These programs have certainly helped with the immigration control, but President Obama has cut funding on them.
Because of the state of our economy and the lack of jobs, many people are blaming illegal immigrants for the problems. They believe that illegal immigrants are taking advantage of needed government money and are taking the potential jobs of legal immigrants, and people are furious that the government doesn’t increase immigration control. What people aren’t realizing is that a lot of these illegal immigrants are helping large and small businesses run by doing the jobs that a lot of other people aren’t willing to do. Yes the government should strengthen control on those corrupting the system, but they should also be willing to accept those that are helping out. If anything, they should help make opportunities for successful illegal immigrants to become legal, and get rid of the other ones.
In the Bible God told Israel to be a light to other nations. America has done well with this by bringing aid to others and trying to make peace in foreign affairs. However, God also told them to be a blessing to the strangers within their borders. When it comes to immigration, Americans become prejudice against Latin-Americans and Arab people. Because of the problem people of those races have caused, we tend to think everyone of that race will do the same. We should follow God’s requirement of being a blessing by not being prejudice and being accepting of those around us, even if they are illegal.

  2. Immigration has been a recurring problem in our country and the government is continually looking at different ways we can control or limit it. As American citizens we need to be cautious and try to solve the problem in the best way possible for our economy but as Christians we are told to love all strangers and treat all foreigners as our neighbor.
There are several different areas that the government is currently focusing on to limit illegal immigration. One is to simply protect our borders the best we can. Obama is also trying to solve different problems that immigrants face and is trying to make it easier for people to become legal and also for immigrating families to stay together. Another major goal that would affect many illegal immigrants, as well as many people in our valley, is to stop employers from hiring illegal immigrants. A person would have to show all correct documentation before being hired. Though this is still done, enforcing it would provide incentive for immigrants to go through the process of gaining citizenship.
Though certain aspects of our economy benefit from these immigrants, a large part of it does not. Our country is in a financial depression and there is a massive job shortage. However, many illegal immigrants hold a job, which makes it more difficult for people who do hold citizenship to find work thus resulting in economic problems. If there wasn’t such an over-population of illegal immigrants in our country, there would be more job opportunities and more opportunities to help our dire financial situation. Also many acts of terrorism are performed by illegal immigrants. Because of all this, we need to be aware of what the government is trying to do to stop illegal immigration. We need to recognize that immigration control is more than just putting up a fence or kicking all possible illegal immigrants out of the country. Though those solutions would be effective for the time being, we need a plan that will help us in the long term as well.
However, as Christians we need to recognize that every person, illegal or not, is created by God and we are commanded to treat everybody with love and accept them as our neighbors. Though it is difficult to feel overly-compassionate when we see how illegal immigration is viewed so negatively, we must remember that our most important job in life is to serve God. But at the same time, we do need to care and be concerned about the safety of our own country. Every step we take in securing the issues of illegal immigration need to taken carefully and with the safety of every person in mind.
Though the immigration debate is currently at somewhat of a standstill, we can see what the government hopes to achieve. We should see that there is potential in stopping illegal immigrants which can be a positive thing for America, but we also must not forget God’s calling for us.

  4. James Madison once said, “America was indebted to immigration for her settlement and prosperity. That part of America which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture and the arts.” America was built by immigration. Immigration made America the country it is today. Immigrants are vital to the American economy. It is important to remember that America still has a need for laborers. Immigrants can fill that void, but illegal immigrants could be a detriment. With that in mind, America’s policy needs to address a legal solution to immigration for laborers.

Immigrants are a necessary part of the American economy. There is a labor class that Americans are unwilling or incapable of filling. These are entry level positions that offer little chance of advancement. Jobs such as farm laborers, hotel staff, warehouse workers, and cleaning staff all fall under this class of labor. Without immigrant workers, there would be no one to fill these positions and the American economy would suffer.

Even with the need for immigrant workers, illegal immigration is not a practical solution to the problem. America should work to end illegal immigration. America needs cooperation with other countries. If other countries monitor their citizens, it will be easier to locate the regions that they are emigrating and their destinations. It is important for the United States to increase their border presence to eliminate opportunities for the illegal crossing of the Mexican-American border. It would be helpful for the United States to provide incentives to employers for employing legal workers.

The United States needs to provide legal options for immigrants who want to work in the U.S. A new, simpler policy needs to be implemented by the United States so that foreign workers can enter the American labor force easily. They also need to provide a solution for current illegal immigrants that will grant some amnesty based on their contributions to their community and the labor force. By allowing current illegal immigrants to become citizens, the United States can increase their tax revenue and possibly direct some of that money towards stopping future illegal immigration.

Since there are no other comments posted, I cannot comment on previous posts. Historically, immigrants have played an important role in the formation of this country and its labor force. There is still room today for immigrant laborers in our economy. We cannot inhibit all immigration, but illegal immigration must be stopped. The best way to stop illegal immigration is to provide a simple, legal solution to immigrants.

  5. The current form of legislation for immigration does not match up to the help the government gives and the consequences forced on those who break the law. America is a nation built upon laws and these laws need to be followed in order for the country to be stable. Immigration is a large system in which these rules need to be followed not only to obey the law but also to protect the country. Because of the benefits America shows to immigrants it is very common for people to illegally enter the country. These people who break the law by entering illegally want to be in America, they want to live in America, and they want to be able to provide for themselves by working in America.
There are many reasons for those who come to America to immigrate here, but the largest reason is for work. So many of the immigrants who come to America are in poverty in their previous country and can hardly provide for their family, or even themselves. In Mexico, by the border cities, the average income of one person is twelve dollars for a days work. There is no wondering why they come to America when they can make almost twelve dollars in just an hour. These people have families who need to be provided for, and by being able to work in America they can make a weeks wage in one day.
Although some immigrants are illegal and have already broken our laws they still can take advantages of the free things we give out. For example food stamps, WIC, and medical coupons are given to people regardless of citizenship. People just walk in and basically ask because the government does not want to check to see if the person is a citizen. The government needs to change this and start checking people for citizenship before money is spent on them. Many illegal people take advantage of this free money and the government should stop this.
Immigrants are very important to the economy because of the jobs they are willing to do. Our economy calls on people like those from Mexico to help in jobs which most people refuse to do. Because of their importance the government needs to help immigrants become legal before they come illegally to our country. There is no sense in not helping those who help run a major role in our country already. The government should take this into consideration, but I’m not one to tell them exactly what to do.
Immigrants who come to our country have a need to live in our country, and America should accept them. They bring culture and different views to many fields and can help with many things that some Americans find troubling. The government should not taunt immigrants with benefits like medical stamps and food stamps while they can still be deported or put in jail. It is not fair to the needs of these people. All people are equal and deserve equal rights, so the government should act harder on helping those who come.

  6. Immigration is happening all around the world today, but the main question is how we to deal with it are? There are two perspectives to look at when dealing with the issue of immigration. First you can just look at it from any common persons view, or you can look at it through a Christian world view. Different races have been developing since Biblical times, and are continuing to affect our country and world today.
In today’s society we deal with immigration problems all around the world, but with the help of immigration policy we are able to track who and what may enter our country. Once an immigrant is in the country immigration policy is able to say if they are able to stay, how long they may stay, and if they are even allowed to apply for a permanent residence. In my opinion I feel that immigration policy is helpful in a way that they can monitor some of the people entering the country, but the problem that we run into is that they can not monitor them all. Illegal immigrants are entering the country continuously, and immigration is not able to stop all of them.
Immigration Policy is only one of the ways used today to stop the heavy flow of immigrants into a country. Another approach is that they stick border patrol all over. The United States have built along the border of Mexico a fence to try to keep the illegal immigrants from coming in, they have also sent out many patrol people to the border. This may seem like a good idea for the United States, but many immigrants are risking their lives by finding more dangerous ways to cross the border. Since the death rate of immigrants has gone up, the governors of New Mexico and Arizona have declared themselves states of emergency.
When an immigrant enters into a country for a short time for business or tourism they may apply for a visa. Today though immigrants are overstaying on their visa’s meaning when their visa has expired, and they are supposed to return home, they continue to live in a different country making them illegal. Many people feel that today the government is not paying enough attention to the immigrants staying past their time. In my opinion yes the government needs to maybe enforce this law more, but these immigrants are also making a new life here and a new home. When looking at immigration we need to keep a Christian perspective on it. When the people were in Egypt there were two callings for them. The first calling was that we need to be a hearing people; we need to hear God’s word and reach out to it. Second we need to care for the stranger, in this view there are two types of strangers the outward stranger, and the inward stranger. Jesus challenges us with two main focuses: Outward focus is to be a light to other nations, and an inward focus is to care for the stranger. In my opinion a Christian’s perspective on immigration should be that we take these “strangers” in and we share our faith in God to them. We are told to go out and make disciples of all nations, so why can’t we go out and talk to our immigrants about God? We as Christian’s need to go out and do a better job on spreading God’s blessing and word.
I could go on and on about this topic, but the main idea I want to point out is that we need to go throughout our nation spreading the word of God. We as Christian’s cannot criticize the immigrants for what they are doing, they are just trying to make a better life for them and their families just like we are trying to do. This may cause conflict because it is taking work from Americans, and lowering wages, but they deserve it just like any other American does.

  7. Immigration to the United States is a very sought after thing. The people of poor countries around the world dream of coming to the United States. The biggest issue of immigration is the illegal aliens from South America and Mexico.
My view of immigration would be from the perspective of a farmer and the needs of a workforce on the farm. We need immigration from Mexico and South America, to supply the workforce because the average American would not even consider doing this type of work. From an article in Newsweek magazine they talked about how Europe shut off its borders to foreign workers to provide work for the homegrown labor. This plan back fired and caused a major influx of illegal immigrants. This is hurting them even more because the immigrants accept rock bottom wages, because they have no legal recourse.
There are many views to the solution of illegal immigration. My view as to the illegal immigrants in our country that are working and contributing to our economy is let them stay. Give them a temporary work visa so they can work without the stress of possible deportation. The honest business man pays them their wage and all the payroll taxes required including social security and all the normal deductions of any American citizen. The best solution is to document all these workers to provide a way to legally and in a timely way meet requirements to work in our country.
We read in class that diversity was the goal of the spreading out of the people after tower of Babel. Our country has a lot of diversity; we are basically a country of immigrants. So, my view of the illegal immigrants is correct that it contributes to the diversity and helps our country succeed.

  8. The U.S. population is founded upon immigration. Nearly everyone living in the U.S. is a descendant of immigrants or is an immigrant themselves. Immigration policy is in need of a reform to better regulate legal immigrants. Immigration is a good thing, but it needs to be used in a good way. God has called us to spread out and be diverse, but sometimes diversity also brings problems.

Many good things are brought about by immigrants. They increase the standard of living in areas where immigrants live, bring new ideas and a younger work force. They are also large economy boosters. Immigrants take the jobs that most Americans do not want. This lessens the strain on producers and consumers. The immigrants work at lower wages so the producers can keep more money. Then, the producers can sell things at lower prices to the consumers.

Having an immigration policy that makes it easier to get into the U.S. has it's downsides. With an open policy, more terrorists, drug dealers, and criminals can come to our country. According to our notes, immigration is also a strain on socisl services. They tent to live in poverty and some depend on welfare. Also educations costs rise as immigrants stay and have families.

The U.S. should have an open immigration policy, but it needs some restrictions. I think new immigrants should be able to come here easily. The U.S. needs to do background checks on immigrants though. The opportunity for unfavorable people entering the country is far too great. With more opportunities for legal entry to the U.S., the amount of illegal immigrants will decrease. As Christians, we should be accepting of immigrants no matter where they come from. Jesus calles us to "love you neighbor as yourself."

  9. Immigration is a very difficult topic for our country to agree upon because the views are very polar depending on who you ask. We should continue to let immigrants into country but we need to make it much more structured. We need to illuminate illegal immigration but we need to make it easier for immigrants to come in temporarily for agricultural jobs.
Allowing immigrants to continue to come into our country is the right thing to do; we can’t be drastic and stop all immigration into the US. But we do need a more structured set of rules and conduct, before we give away food stamps, welfare, and jobs. We are giving these things to illegal immigrants, which is not only unfair to the legal immigrants but we are essentially throwing our money down a hole. The Government needs to put in place ways to make sure we are helping United States citizens first, possibly by verifying their social security number.
Secondly we need to continue to stop illegal immigration because people are coming in and not having a very positive influence on our economy. They take money from our economy by not paying taxes but use our welfare system. They make money in our country but spend it in their country of origin, which is bad for us because our economy somewhat depends on people spending money in the US. So we need to stop illegal immigration because it’s damaging our economy.
On the other hand with restricting illegal immigration we also need to make it easier for people to immigrate on a type of visa so they are able to fill the agricultural jobs needed. Because allowing them to come temporarily for jobs will decrease the need for them to sneak in illegally. Quoting Steven Bosma, it’s like a carrot and a stick, you can’t lure them in with a carrot then beat them with a stick. They want in our country and there is no way around it so if we are more compliant with immigrants wanting in it might decrease illegal immigration.
In conclusion we first need to take care of problems inside the US with where our tax money is going to help, citizens or illegal immigrants. Then we need to strengthen our borders and slow down the flood off illegal immigrants. Finally we need allow more people in for agriculture jobs because we need them and allowing them in will reduce their desire to break the rules to get in. Also we should show respect to the immigrants because that’s what Jesus would have done, we should not treat them as less than human. The Legislation has a difficult job trying to find a perfect balance to make everyone happy which I think is honestly a impossible task.

  10. I think that we should view the immigration legislation with a little more empathy toward the immigrants and their welfare as long as the immigrants are legal. I also think that before a legal immigrant receives the benefits of an American they should wait for a certain amount of time and become self-sufficient contributors of society. Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, should not at all be eligible for benefits because of their illegal entry into the United States.
An example of empathetic immigration legislation shows up on the = Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) website. On February 25, 2010 Representative Todd Tiahrt introduced the “Reinstatement of Personal Responsibility for Immigrants Act” (HR-4708) that would reverse one of the acts that the Democratic Party wanted to incorporate into the State Children’s Health Care Plan (SCHIP). The Democratic Party wanted to allow illegal immigrants to receive the same benefits as legal immigrants and native-born Americans. HR-4708 made it so that illegal immigrants would not be eligible for these benefits; documentation of citizenship would have to be proven with legal documents. Legal immigrants applying for SCHIP benefits would also have to verify through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system thus proving their legal status.
This plan shows awareness to the needs of legal immigrants as well as native-born Americans by requiring proper documentation for both parties as well as the SAVE system for legal immigrants. HR-4708 also reinstates the five-year waiting period for legal immigrants applying for SCHIP benefits, requiring that legal immigrants be hard working contributors of society before receiving benefits. FAIR president Dan Stein said that what Representative Tiahrt had written up would “not only help prevent illegal aliens from unlawfully accessing taxpayer-funded benefits, they enforce a long-standing policy that legal aliens should not be admitted to the United States unless they are able – with the help of their sponsors – to be self-sufficient.” In short, this plan effectively keeps illegal immigrants from taking advantage of a health care program that they are not eligible for and provides coverage for people that are eligible for it.
From a Christian perspective, immigration is not a bad thing, God had even told Noah to “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth” (Gen. 9:1). God created us to go other places and preach his word to all nations (Matt. 28:19-20). Being able to travel the land and preach God’s word is what He wants, but entering a country illegally and stealing from people in that country is wrong and is a misuse of immigration.

  11. America is a country built by immigrants, in fact, one in eight U.S. residents is foreign born. The basic nature of our country is to be a refuge and a safe haven for those looking to build a better life. This is also a very Christian way to view immigration; being a refuge for people loking to build a better life. This is why we should not restrict legal immigration. However, illegal immigration is a problem.

The U.S. needs to work against illegal immigration. According to the "Status of Mexican Immigration" article, millions of illegal immigrants come into the U.S. from Mexico every year and this is just one country. These immigrants do not have to pay taxes becasue our government is not aware of their existence, they have no records of them. This presents a problem when these immigrants use social services payed for through taxes such as public education, welfare and medicare.

Large masses of illegal immigrants also result in overcrowded neighborhoods and a greater amount of poverty in the U.S.. These immigrants also keep the minimum wage low. The problem with this is that illegal immigrants fill a lot of jobs that Americans are unwilling to work. One example of this is a lot of the agricultural jobs, such as harvesting crops this is an example we can relate to very well here in the valley.

These are the people I don't mind having around, people who are hardworking, are more beneficial than detrimental to their community and don't believe that social services are owed to them. However, as with anything, there is always a flip side, these are not the only kind of people that illegaly immigrate into the U.S.. There are also the people noone wants around, like criminals. From a Christian standpoint, we should try to help all who need help or at least give them all a chance, but we live in a sinful world so there is no perfect solution. WIth the help of the CLEAR act, the U.S. is trying to crack down on illegal immigrants but I think, those with a criminal record should take priority when it comes to deporting illegal immigrants.

  12. Legal immigration has been suffering from the lack of control on illegal immigration. The government has continued to limit the number of legal immigrants each year, because of the overwhelming number of illegals. Legal immigrants help bolster out country by bringing in new ideas, diversity of culture, and also they help the economy by paying taxes and working. The problem is the government regulates the incoming legal immigrants, because they can limit the influx easier. A surprising study, in "the Future of Immigration", has shown that the projected amount of growth that immigration will have in the next 50 years will be about 167 million people. That would cause a huge impact on the U.S. Cities would be more crowded and there would be more greenhouse gas emissions. This study shows that the government needs to start regulating the illegal immigrants more because the lack of regulation will cause trouble in our countries future.
The Christian perspective of immigration is one of hospitality and acceptance. We are called by God to care for our neighbors. I agree that we should take care of everyone and not discriminate, however that does not require our country to give those who break the rules all the upsides of our country. Illegal immigrants should not be rewarded with all of our freedoms when they did not go through the steps of becoming legal. This does not mean we can treat them badly, we still need to care for them because we are called to be a listening people and look for opportunities to show God's grace to those who need it.
Over all our country is trying its best to keep immigration in check. The government should work harder on regulating illegal immigrants, because the longer the lack of control over these immigrants is not put in place there will be bigger problems in the future. We need to be neighbors to all those coming into our country, but we should not let ourselves to be taken advantage of.

  13. The immigration policy is a very important aspect of our country. Immigration is a necessary thing for a country to flourish, but it can also cause problems within our country. Current legislation, put in place by President Obama, has taken money and manpower away from essential border control measures. These actions will not help our country grow stronger but they will cause more trouble and strain on our economy. The government should do their best to regulate illegal immigrants in the country, and work to protect our borders.
In President Obama's budget plan for the year 2011 he proposed to make monetary cuts to immigration enforcement programs. The programs that suffer from this would be the Secure Border Initiative, US-VISIT, and also cut 180 agents from the Border Control. This is a step in the wrong direction. These cuts all hurt the agencies that are protecting U.S. borders from illegal immigration. The total cuts these two agencies would experience would be around 265 million dollars. This is not right because the lack of enforcement on illegal immigrants will put a strain on the economy, because of the multitude who depend on government money to live off of.
The challenging part is that illegal immigrants are a necessary evil. They take government money which in turn places a strain on the economy. Also they have a lot of rights that citizens do which causes frustration. Illegal immigrants do play a very important role in the agriculture business though. Many farmers rely on illegal immigrants to be the majority of their workforce. People complain that illegal immigrants are then taking jobs that Americans could work in, but most people would not work in an orchard or on a dairy. According to the article "A Shifting Tide: Recent Trends in the Illegal Immigrant Population" there are about 10.8 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. Many of these immigrants pay taxes and work the jobs that are necessary for the agriculture industry. This article also shows some surprising statistics. It says that the number of immigrants returning home has doubled in the last year and that the general population of Illegal immigrants has fallen 13.7 percent. This change could be accredited to the state of our economy.
What the government should do is enforce the deportation of Illegal immigrants. There was legislation in 2003 that supported this idea. The CLEAR Act would have provided money to police agencies to find and deport illegals, and also give them money and incentives to do this. The bill would have allowed over 600,000 law enforcement officials the jurisdictional authority to enforce immigration laws as a part of their everyday work. Had this passed it would have improved the state of illegal immigration because those who had committed crimes would be deported instead of put into our jail system.

  14. Immigration is a good thing that should be supported within the U.S. If it wasn’t for immigration, America would not exist. We might think of ourselves as having special privileges because we were born here, but our families all came from somewhere else at some point in time. Our families then were no different than the immigrant families coming into the U.S. today.
Biblically, diversity and spreading over the earth is a good thing. If you take the story of the tower of Babel, the different languages were given to make things difficult for everyone building the tower. The tower was drawing everyone to one place and God wanted them spread over the entire earth. God gave all the different languages, and, according to Genesis 11:9b, “scattered them over the face of the whole earth.” Since God was scattering the people around, this would lead you to believe that moving around the world is a good thing.
As Christians, we should be willing to help immigrants and welcome them. 1 Peter 4:9 says we must “offer hospitality without grumbling.” People coming into the country should feel welcomed. They should be allowed to celebrate their customs if they want and not be forced to leave it behind. However, they have chosen to come to America so they should be willing to follow American customs as well.
There are many reasons that it is good to have immigrants coming into the country. They bring new ideas and customs that can benefit everyone. They fill jobs that are necessary for our economy. The people of America should be honored that so many people want to live in our country.

I agree with Sir Brently. We need to be kind and neighborly as Christians. We should help those who need it, but we are already citizens so we should not let them take advantage of us.

  15. The United States has been trying for a long time now to get a handle on our immigration problem. Most americans think we need to just completely keep immigrants out of the country, but we need immigrants for agricultural jobs and to keep our stressed economy running. We cant just close the borders completely, but instead the U.S. should give out so many visas per year to immigrants coming here to work and to people wanting to come here for education.
Some say we are wasting money on border control and it is not working to keep out illegals anyway, but border patrol gives a huge number of jobs to our economy and is necessary to keep a handle on our immigration problem. Our border Patrol should be enforced and they should be watching the borders closer.
Giving citizenship to immigrants is also a good idea in order for more tax revenue, culture, and just general ideas being brought into America. America is built on immigration and immigrants and there is not one main ethnic group present, but there are several groups of people that make up this country so why should we stop letting immigrants into our country.
Having more immigrants in the country would mean that they would spend money in businesses and money would be circulated through the economy better.
One downside to letting so many immigrants into America is the gangs and all the drugs being brought in. Immigrants should be profiled to some extent and checked to make sure they are legal citizens. The illegals should then be taken straight back across the border. Many people stereotype immigrants and think that they all just come here to do drugs, join gangs, and start trouble, but there are many that are truly just seeking better lives. The U.S. government needs to work better at controlling the massive amounts of illegals that have entered the country. Immigrants that come here just to cause trouble should be taken right back across the border.
A big issue with immigrants is welfare and all the government aid. Most of the people that get financial aid from the government dont need it and use it for stuff that they shouldnt. They dont pay much in taxes and so why should they get handed money especially when usually they dont need it.

  16. The united states have been wasting alot of money on the border partol and trying to stop the from crossing the border to the united states. Its hard to but a complete stop to it on stoping them from crossing.

We are pretty much a agriculture place in the valley. We need the immigrants for the dairys and farmers. It is hard with the illegal people to get a job, with the new laws they are putting out on the farms or every where else.

Its a big issue we have right now with the immigrants crossing the border. But we them in the U.S. So we should let people cross the border with a green card. And make it alot easy to get one.

My parents had to get a green card to come to America. It was hard for them to get here and start a future. But they are still growing in the future and still going strong.

I agree with drew with the government aid to the immigrants. That we shouldnt be paying extra taxs and extra money for them to stay here.

  17. I think that Immigration ultimately is a good thing that gives our country a lot if diversity and it is what made our country exist in the first place. However, immigration is out of control at this point, and many Americans want to get rid of it completely. I think that we need to limit the number of immigrants that come into America. There are a lot of people who come here looking for great opportunities, so it is difficult to tell them they can’t come.
Right now I think that The US needs to work against Illegal Immigration. Millions of people from Mexico come here illegally every year. The problem then becomes that there are too many illegal immigrants, not too many legal immigrants. Another argument for the illegal immigrants is that they are very helpful in the farming community in Sunnyside. Ultimately, we need them for our farming. In our valley we see them as extremely helpful, and beneficial. However, in the larger cities, they just see illegal immigrants as people who are lowering our minimum wage, and stealing jobs from legal Americans.
There are definitely down sides to illegal immigration. There are a lot of down sides to immigration. There are a lot of people that are criminals who come, and they ruin a lot of things in America that are peaceful. I think that as a Christian, we should allow people the chance to come to America, but they need to respect our country
